If you are lamenting the acquisition of the WSJ by sensationalist mogul Rupert Murdoch (that’s Fox Television, some 100 newspapers including The Times of London and The New York Post as well as MySpace and Twentieth Century Fox studio for you cave-dwellers!), then we have more bad news for you, folks. One of the web’s biggest green blogs, Treehugger.com, has sold out to Discovery Channel to the tune of a reported $10M big ones. Truth be told, Treehugger began to lose its edginess long ago after the format switch (and they began selling t-shirts, lol), but this seals the deal, IMO.
I like to watch Discovery programs, and all-in-all they provide a lot of educational content, but it is hard to overlook the fact that a goodly amount of their airtime spews shows with names like ‘Build It Bigger‘ and ‘Future Weapons‘, not to mention the Discovery owned ‘Military Channel‘ (no, it is not a scholarly study of military history ala some History Channel programs).
A Treehugger reader suggested Celcias as another top-rate green blog, and while I’ve overlooked them among the many sites of their kind vying for my readership, I’ve added their RSS feed to my newsreader.
