Mission Accomplished? President Bush vetoed the Congress’s Iraq War spending bill today, objecting to the included timeline for withdraw. Given all the wrongheaded predictions of the administration’s war machine to date, I’m not hopeful that the justification for this decision is predicated on any less shaky of an argument.

Politically, Bush has little interest in withdrawing troops when he can leave them in harm’s way until after his term ends, thereby ducking the blame and leaving the incoming President to deal with the aftermath and take the fall should the situation deteriorate further.

Please take a moment to reflect on the US casualties and the mounting Iraqi civilian toll.
