“– what I know — what I know — I heard concerns raised by Mr. Rove. And what I know today — what I don’t recall, the specific mention of this conversation, I recall the meeting — is that there was a meeting in October with the president in which the president, as I understand it, relayed to me similar concerns about pursuing election fraud -” - Attorney General Gonzales
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is giving testimony in front of the Congress today over the political firings of eight federal prosecutors. Among the revelations in Gonzales’s rambling, cover his ass responses are who directed the firing of NM prosecutor David Iglesias.
Sen. Domenici’s hand in this is already well established (nothing happens in Nuevo Mexico without the political godfather’s knowledge), but the admission of Karl Rove’s direct involvement adds fuel to the steadily building fire under the feet of the GOP’s Wizard of Oz. And what is that about Bush himself expressing concerns about federal prosecutors pursuing (supposedly Democratic) elections fraud investigations? Interesting how he doesn’t recall what the President’s comments about pursuing election fraud were.. this could get juicy.
