Arctic explorer Will Steger has just started a 3 month ski and dog sled voyage across Baffin Island to promote awareness of climate changes taking place above the arctic circle. You can follow his adventure through this website. Among his crew are several Inuit guides who will use their natural history knowledge of the arctic conditions to help document some of the subtle seasonal shifts taking place.

Steger’s journey is among many artic and antarctic expeditions kicking off in the near future, as 2007 is International Polar Year, a 2007-08 global initiative to conduct 12 months of continuous, intensive polar research on climate change.

Today’s Science Friday on NPR featured an interview with Steger as well as a discussion of some of the science being conducted as a part of the polar research initiative, take a listen.
