Cars really are a big problem. The more I learn about car pollution, the more dismayed I become that I drive one around. A few years ago, I visited the Smithsonian and remember very clearly a display that illustrated the various sources of ocean oil pollution and their magnitudes. The figure for car exhaust, in the form of oil particulates, was estimated at 90 million gallons per year. That is three times the estimate for industrial oil spills.
Some outspoken bicycle activists in Chicago have come up with an original and funny protest of the Chicago Car Show with a cool parody site. Take a look at them side-by-side.
Well, the car show didn’t find it THAT funny, I guess, since they threatened the protest organizers with a lawsuit. Luckily the fine folks at the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) stepped in to help protect the group’s right to free speech.
